Jung Indien is a platform for long-form cultural commentary. We publish essays, translations, interviews and book reviews that offer a novel idea to even a well-informed reader. We are interested in original, well-argued pieces that engage with the larger themes that define our moment.
We will consider essays which are post-religious, anti-socialism, pro-India, anti-woke, modernist and/or unapologetically anti-Dehat.
Ask yourself:
If the answer to both is yes, then we want to read it.
We pay per piece, after we approve it, at the following rates:
To submit, send your work to hello@jungindien.in with the subject line: Submission: [Title of your piece]. In the body of the email, include your full name (or a pseudonym, if you wish), a 50–100 word summary of your argument, and a brief note on why you believe this piece belongs at Jung Indien.
We will respond within two weeks. If you do not hear from us in that time, feel free to query. Once you receive approval from us, you can start working and submit the first draft within 30 days.
We publish only original work that has not appeared elsewhere in print or online. An exception can be made for Substack pieces. Simultaneous submissions are not accepted. If your piece is a translation or has been adapted from a talk or lecture, please mention this clearly at the time of submission.
We reserve the right to edit for clarity, length, and house style, though we will consult you on any significant changes. We believe in the writer's voice, and we will not flatten your style to fit a template.
We promise our readers a certain quality, and because we pay for every piece, we expect a corresponding level of effort and respect in return. We discourage being overtly reliant upon AI to write your pieces. Using it to gather evidence, organise your points, or sharpen your own writing is fine — the argument has to be yours and can not be outsourced.
We place high value upon the economy of expression and do not appreciate ramblings in the form of essays. As a famous maxim from the Sanskrit grammatical tradition goes, "grammarians rejoice over the saving of half a syllable as over the birth of a son." Here too, we consider brevity a virtue. Our submissions typically range from 1,500 to 3,500 words for full-length essays, though shorter provocations between 800 and 1,200 words are also welcome for sharper, more focused arguments. Longer pieces will only be considered if they are exceptional and justify every extra word.
Kindly add citations as footnotes and submit your work as a .docx file with minimal formatting — we will handle the rest. Include a brief bio of two to three lines telling us who you are.
